2 Step Marketing

Marketing is as simple as 1,2 …

Do it Right.

I receive postcards all the time. The other day I received a postcard trying
to sell me a copy machine. It had tiny, tiny lettering slathered all over the
front and a large portion of the back of the card. It was extremely hard to
read, so hard in fact that I threw it away. Several days later I received a
postcard with 32 words on it telling me that I could get complete infor-
mation on unrestricted long distance telephone service for 5.5 cents a
minute with no additional monthly fee by calling the 800 number on the
card. I did call. I got the information, had my questions answered and
ordered my long distance service changed. The company who offered
me the long distance service was using a time tested 2 step selling process:

Step 1. Generate a lead – Get me to call their 800 number.
Step 2. Provide the requested information –
Provided to me on the phone by one of their sales representatives,
who was able to answer my questions and make me feel confident
that I could save quite a bit of money on my long distance bill and
that the service would be as good or better.

What’s So Good About 2 Steps?
It is much easier to create interest (a lead) than it is to get a person
through an entire buying process (a sale). You aren’t getting the
prospect or existing customer to part with any money just yet.
You can use postcards to inexpensively promote to your target
prospects and customers and generate leads (inquiries about your
products and services) to then be followed up on and converted to
sales.

This 2 step process also helps you to create a list of people who were
interested enough in what you offered to contact you. You can then
re-contact the one’s who you didn’t complete a sale with when they
first inquired, preferably until they do buy from you.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to get the information you will need to
re-contact the people who responded to your postcard offering.
Repetitive follow-ups with the people who contacted you will result
in increased sales. Make it a company policy to follow up with those
people who contacted you about your products and services.

The Most Effective Use of Postcards:

The purpose of your postcard’s message is to generate a sufficient
level of interest in the mind of your prospect to get him/her to
contact you to ask you about your offer. You are generating interest,
not collecting their money (not yet anyway). That is what the 2 step
marketing process is about. Generating interested prospects and
customers who contact you for more information.

Your message needs 3 parts to be most effective:
1. A clear statement of the biggest benefit of your product or service
(in the long distance example, it was cost savings).
2. A good reason for them to contact you NOW.
3. A simple, easy way for them to respond (an 800 number for example).

Your message should be short and to the point. Short messages on
postcards produce more leads than long ones. For example:
Call 800-555-1212 for Your Copy of Our Free Report: What 99% of
Business Owners Don’t Know and Will Never Find Out About Using
Postcards to Explode Their Profits … Offer ends 5-5-01(Print a date 3
weeks from your mailing date to create some urgency)

Lots of people will respond to find out what they might not know.
Don’t forget, they responded, which is least some interest in the
information you have created a curiosity about. This method works
and is sure to produce a large number of inquiries if sent to your
proper market. This 2 Step Marketing process works!

Use the tips you have read here to create your next postcard’s message
and see what happens. You will generate a bunch of leads from people
who are truly interested in your products and services.

Telemarketing is really NOT the Anti-Christ

Today you’ll learn how to use direct mail marketing and, yes, telemarketing
to your full advantage. I know, the word “telemarketing” might as well be four
letters, but there is a way to help customers feel like they are getting personal
attention and keep them from blocking your number! This can especially be
crucial in Brevard County Florida.

With the success direct mail marketing has had and the availability of
computers, these can be used as a powerful marketing tool for your success.
Telemarketing is best for high priced, high margin products/services.

Here are the key steps to putting together a highly effective
direct mail marketing program:

  1. List all benefits customers will get from
the purchase of your products and services.
  2. Pick the single most powerful benefit out of that list.
  3. Build an attention-getting headline around that benefit.
Remember to use emotion-fulfill the desire to be young,
    wealthy, desired, popular or successful.
  4. Develop a sales letter using the headline you created to grab
attention, provide information and motivate customers to act.
  5. Put together supplementary items, like a brochure, order form,
reply envelope or note that encourages them to read the letter.
  6. Rent or purchase a mailing list.
  7. Compare cost of mailing vs. cost per order.
  8. Continue to test and refine your direct mail marketing plan.

You can see how direct mail marketing can help you find a local or even
country-wide target market to send letters or postcards to and draw in
new clientele and customers. Fine-tuning your marketing campaign
will bring better results and therefore lower the overall  cost of the
campaign.

To be successful in telemarketing you need to:

  • Put together a plan, so you know exactly what
you want to accomplish during the call.
  • Develop a list of topics to discuss and the
questions you want to present around these topics.
  • Input verbiage checking to see if you are calling at a good time.
  • Include enough questions to keep the conversation interesting,
but not too many to sound like you are interrogating.
  • Start with broad questions and narrow your focus as
    the conversation continues.
  • Offer feedback to show them you are paying attention
    and appreciate their time.
  • Don’t insult their intelligence or manipulate them.
  • Listen first, talk second.
  • Be relaxed and conversational.

Telemarketing doesn’t have to be the trauma it’s made out to be. You
can put together an honest, personal and effective telemarketing
campaign that is endearing, informative and gets the job done. Think
of how you would want to be treated on a marketing call. Ask your
friends and family what they hate most about the telemarketing calls
they get and work hard to craft your plan in a better way.

When selling by telephone, you have approximately thirty seconds to
convince the customer to listen to you. You need an opening statement
that captures their attention, conveys who you are, what you want
and why the prospect should listen.”

They All Look Identical!

Please consider this!

Next time you’re online, I want you to search out and compare a few websites. Compare 2 or more moving company websites, or perhaps fencing contractors, or attorneys, or accountants or any other professional or service-based business.

THEY ALL LOOK IDENTICAL TO EACH OTHER!!!

This explains why so many businesses compete on price.

Think about it, when you go to buy something, don’t you always want the best deal? Well, when businesses look and say the exact same things, isn’t price the ONLY way to determine who is offering the best deal?

The following statement is often shocking to business owners, but price is NOT what customers shop for! They’re shopping for VALUE. Customers will pay twice the price if they believe they’ll receive four times the value.

Prove this to yourself …

do you buy all your clothes at Walmart? Do you drive the cheapest car on the market? If not, why not? Value trumps price every time, but when all businesses look identical to each other, the ONLY value proposition left to the customer is the business offering the lowest price.

So, let me prove to you right now that everything you have ever learned … everything you have ever been taught … and everything you have ever been told about marketing is WRONG!

Here’s a video I created for you. Trust me when I tell you this may be the most important video you will ever watch as a business owner.

It’s a little long… 73 minutes, but I promise you it will be the BEST 73 minutes you will ever invest as a business owner!

I hope you enjoy it, and next week … I’ll help you begin to market your business the right way, and watch what happens to your leads and sales once you do.

Kick Start Your Marketing

Today I’d like to teach you about the three most important start up marketing tools you need to get and keep new customers.

  1. In person: It’s essential you meet with customers/clients in person whenever possible. This shows you respect them and take the time to work with your clients to give personal attention to each of them.
  2. Follow up letter: Always take a moment to send a follow up letter about what you talked about, new agreements or partnerships made and to thank them for taking the time to meet with you. Likewise, you should always send thank you letters or small gifts to partners you find success with.
  3. Phone call: Use a telephone call to follow up with them to talk again about the matters you talked about in your meeting and offer any assistance you can to help their business run smoothly and more successfully.

None of these will work if you don’t have a quality product/service to back you up!

Here are the key steps for putting together your start-up marketing tools:

Stop Wasting Your Resources!

Today you’re going to learn how to find a target market of potential customers so you aren’t wasting precious resources on blitz marketing. So, the two questions you have to ask yourself are:

  • What do people really want to buy from me?
  • What related products are they already buying?

Once you figure this out you will know who is more predisposed to purchase your products/services. Then, you find other businesses with the same customer base who you can customer share with. Come up with an incentive and great arrangement to encourage both of your customer bases to shop at both of your stores.

The basic concept is this:

You want to find existing businesses who have the customer profile that you are looking for to market your products/services to.

Then strike up a relationship with those business owners to work out an incentive for customers to purchase from both businesses.

Educate Your Customers

Educate them about what, you may be thinking. Well, consider this, many businesses focus solely on attracting new customers, but you NEED to spend a good chunk of your time retaining current and former customers. These are people you already know to be a good sales potential…they’ve already bought from you!

Take the time to market and sell new products to your old customers and less time trying to sell old products to new customers and you will see a drastic change in your sales, customer quality and branding position.

Here are a couple of key elements to use to retain your current customers:

  1. Stay in contact: This means by phone, email, e-newsletter, in person-by pigeon if you have too!
  2. Post-Purchase Assurance: This means you need to follow up with customers. Your customers need to feel like they are being supported for their purchase and with the item they purchased. How many times have you purchased a product, then felt completely abandoned? Something as simple as a Thank You note with your contact or customer service information can go along way in retaining a great customer.
  3. Deals & Guarantees: Always offer your current customers the best deals and guarantees you have. Show them you appreciate their business or even come up with a club specifically to reward loyal customers. You can also do this with a preferred pricing option.
  4. Integrity: Using good business practices and simply upholding integrity, dignity and honesty go along way with customers. Let’s face it, there’s a lot of swindling and crap out there and the safer and more confident you make your customers feel, the more they will trust you and that makes for an amazingly supportive and loyal customer.

Lessons I Learned from Paris Hilton

Today we’ll talk about shameless self-promotion. That’s right, I said it! Shameless! After all, we are learning from Paris Hilton here.

It’s all about self-promotion! Self-promotion comes in many forms and you can use different tactics to get your name out there. Look at politicians! Talk about self-promotion and in some not so discreet ways, at that. But, seriously, consider some of the major superstars we all know. Madonna, Donald Trump, Howard Stern and Bill Clinton, just to name a few.

We all self promote. Did you raise your hand in class to show the teacher you knew the answer? Of course! That’s self-promotion. This is the kind of self-promotion we are talking about. With dignity, class and the knowledge to back it up. If you self-promote only to prove you don’t really know what you’re talking about, you’re going to lose business.

Natural self-promoters are the former and I want to tell you about the three major traits they have and use to build themselves and their businesses.
